Fair adds High Speed ATMs

Long lines at the fair’s ATM machine should be a thing of the past thanks to the addition of four state-of-the-art money machines.
The fair has purchased its own units, constructed a building to house them and will be keeping them full of cash throughout the 8-day fair that runs Oct. 1-8.
“There has been a huge demand for access to cash and the old machine wasn’t able to keep up,” said Treasurer Conrad Eastman. “After reviewing several options, the Finance Committee decided that we would operate the ATMs ourselves.”
A 12- by 16-foot building has been constructed on the site of the old ATM adjacent to Expo I by Waterwheel Park.
      Norway Savings Bank provided the

first ATM in 2000 and a second one was added by the back gate First Aid station two years ago. The newer one saw less activity than the original machine located at the edge of the midway.
“For security purposes, we have put them in one location,” Eastman said, noting that they are across from the police station. “With high speed connection and four times as many units in one place, we feel this will solve the problem of long lines and improve the situation substantially.”
In addition to long lines last year, the fair and its vendors lost one day when the entire ATM system for the region was down.
“People today carry plastic and expect to be able to obtain cash quickly. We want to be able to accommodate them quickly without lines,” Eastman said.
Fair Treasurer Conrad Eastman, right, chats with Finance Committee member Ted Raymond during a pre-fair test of the new ATM machines. Fair Network Administrator Steve Graustein, left, observes as Don Sevigny, president of DC ATM Systems in Hudson NH, sets up another machine in the background.
