2005 Report to Trustees & Officers
by Hilary Ware, Llama Superintendent

The llama show was energized this year by the presence of seven youth exhibitors who outdid themselves in showmanship and costume creativity. This is thanks to Heidi West from Berwick who runs the only Llama 4-H Club in the state.

Her members, and our loyal sister pair from New Hampshire, were very well prepared. They entertained the audience and the judge during the warmest Tuesday m orning at Fryeburg we have ever had. Our adult exhibitors were gracious competitors showing exquisite animals. All in all it was a total success for our 12 exhibitors and 20 animals.
The rest of the week was punctuated by twice daily demonstrations in our exhibit area outside the barn. It has helped to have two sets of grandstands for all to be able to see- thank you Roy and the maintenance crew!

We used a microphone this year so all could hear as well- helpful for the soft-spoken Becky Smith, a professional trainer who put on absorbing sessions on how llamas think and learn.
Alpacas arrived to fill the barn during the second half of the week, and the owners were particularly engaged this year. The exhibits on fiber were excellent; lots of questions asked and answered. I would like to assure more farms (there were a total of 5) in attendance for future years and I am working with the president of the Maine Alpaca Association on recruiting.
We would like to request more warm weather for next year, please - hold the rain.
